Siam Kitchen, a highlight for genuine Thai cookery
Siam Kitchen is a genuinely authentic cookery institute specializing in the world renowned Thai cuisine. Initially established in 2000 at Chiang Mai, the establishment is now situated at Koh Samui Island. Operated by Khun Sont Sukhavachana, an experienced professional instructor and his immediate family members in their own home, the objective of the school is to impart knowledge of Thai cooking in a very informal friendly ambience. With instruction provided in English, attending classes at Siam Kitchen will benefit anyone interested in preparing Thailand’s exotic and varied dishes. An important feature of the cooking is that it conforms to Thai culinary tradition, without foreign or international influences.
A selection of Thailand’s favourite culinary treats is featured at this well recognized cookery school. Participants may enrol in as many classes as they desire, with the standard course offering proficiency in the preparation of four dishes, either from the institute’s set menu or personal requests. The basic choices are salad/noodle, appetizer, main course, soup/curry and dessert, with many different options in each category.
Typically the class commences with the instructor taking you to the nearby farmers’ marketplace and introducing you to the usual ingredients used in Thai cooking. You will learn how to select the freshest seafood, herbs, meat, vegetables and fruits.
Back in the kitchen, students receive a brisk briefing from Sont, after which they begin the business of cooking the delicious Thai dishes. Typically the cooking time is swift, in the region of ten minutes, and participants receive a steady stream of instructions from the ever amiable Sont. After the cooking is completed, participants are given the opportunity to taste the delectable foods they have prepared.
Koh Samui has acquired the status of a major tourist destination and accordingly a myriad of restaurants, cafes and eateries are to be found on the island, from high-end establishments to unpretentious low-key eateries. The local Southern Thai cuisine is generally considered to be spicy, with Indonesian, Malay and Indian influences.
Travellers seeking a quality Samui resort will be well served by the Anantara Bophut, Koh Samui. This luxurious Samui hotel never fails to live up to the expectations of its esteemed guests.
