If you’re in Phuket and are looking to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine like the locals do, then steet food delights are the way to go. Not only are they affordable, touring the local street food stalls and markets amongst the local crowds is a unique experience on its own. If you plan on embarking on a street food fiesta, here are a few iconic dishes to try.

Hokkien Noodles

Hokkein noodles is one of the most popular street food delicacies and is available in two types; you can try mee Hokkien which is a stir-fried noodle dish, or mee nam Hokkien which is a noodle soup. Both versions are served with seafood and thinly sliced barbecue pork.

Satay

This is one of the most convenient street foods as it is fairly easy to consume. It consists of sliced or diced meat, usually pork, chicken or beef, grilled with spices and presented on a skewer. It is almost always served with a peanut sauce and is so popular that you’ll find it even in the top restaurants in Phuket.

Roti

This is essentially a Thai pancake that you can enjoy with various sweet or savoury fillings. As a dessert one of the more common variations is roti stuffed with banana slices and layered with condensed milk. You can also enjoy roti with a curry on the side.

Som Tam

This is a green papaya salad and can be found abundantly in street food stalls and even in restaurants at resorts like Koh Yao Yai Resort. While its main ingredient is green papaya, it also features chilli, tomatoes, carrots and beans along with fish sauce, lime and palm sugar.
