Famous Food Trails in Singapore
Gastronomical Adventures!
Singapore has long had an influence of not only neighbouring Malaysia but also China, Indonesia, India, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines, Middle East amongst many others. Nothing demonstrates this influence better than the cuisine of this multiethnic country.
Singapore is famous for its hawker streets where stall after stall sells exotic dishes that will delight anyone’s taste buds. Keeping this in mind; there are many food exhibitions, tours and food courts with award winning restaurants such as Rasapura Masters that continue to cater to foodies.
Singapore Food Trail is one such dining concept that brings to life traditional Singaporean cuisine. Located close to the Singapore Flyer this 1960s themed food haven has favourites of the past such as ice balls and kachang puteh. Even the décor is keeping in line with the theme and all hawkers sell food items that are from this period.
There are over 600 stalls and canopies that are provided to ensure that no disturbance occurs while you tuck in heartily. Famous names that are part of Singapore’s cuisine history are also here, some of them being Boon Tat Street Barbeque Seafood, Katong Keah Kee Fried Oysters, Rong Chen Bah Kut and Alhambra Satay Club.
Alhambra Satay Club established in 1967 has since then had people drooling over its chicken wings and barbeques skewer wings. Moghul Mahal Cuisine has created a fan base that goes back 30 years and continues to do so with its North Indian cuisine that uses nothing but home-grounded spices.
Newton Meng Kee Prawn Noodle House also began in the 60s and is renowned for their prawn noodles, where recipes passed down from generation to generation are used to make a stock that has an assortment of unusual ingredients while being boiled for over 8 hours. Each stall here is family run and has its own unique flavour and equally individualistic history which is what makes them popular.
Singapore has many such interesting food places to offer and staying at centrally located Singapore apartment hotels provide an ideal base from which to explore these dining hotspots. There are many serviced apartments Singapore has to offer and one of the most popular is La Residenza Serviced Suites.
