The best Thai food you can eat
eat away to your heart's content
Thai food requires little or no introduction to almost every major city in the world features at least a couple of Thai restaurants. However, dining in Thailand itself is an experience on its own. The mix of exotic flavours, the fragrances and of course the ambience, all set the stage to suit even the most discerning traveller.
Phuket, amidst its vibrant nightlife and “happening” setting, is a food lover’s’ haven. If you opt for a beach restaurant in Phuket, you’ll also get to enjoy the gorgeous shoreline as you dine. Hotels such as Anantara Layan Phuket Resort offer fantastic Thai meals, while also placing you nearby to other popular eateries that you want to check out. There are a number of key dishes that you MUST try out during your holiday in Phuket.
The premier Thai dish that you will come across is Pad Thai, which is a stir-fried rice noodle mostly served in street eateries. The dish is made with soaked and dried rice noodles, which are stir-fried in eggs and tofu. Pad Thai also contains tamarind pulp, fish sauce, dried shrimp, shallots garlic and many more ingredients. “Non-veg” options include fresh shrimp, crab, squid and/or chicken. Vegetarian options are also available.
Another classic Thai dish is the Pad Kra Pao. Be warned though, it is a spicy dish, no matter how less spicy you want it. It is made of minced pork or chicken stir fried with basil and chillies and served with rice. Some travellers say that the Pad Kra Pao served at roadside eateries is better than the one at restaurants because the meat is chopped more finely at the former. Give it a shot and see which you prefer.
Some of the other dishes that you ought to try out are banana pancakes, Kuay Teow Moo Daeng (red pork noodle soup) and spring rolls, all of which are absolute delights and great to enjoy when out and about.
