Arabic food: Names of Arabic Dishes
Explore the Delicious Flavours of the Middle
Arabian cuisine is rich and diverse in its flavours, presumably due to being influenced by a myriad of other cuisines over time. Arabian and Middle Eastern meals have drawn inspiration from India and Turkey as well as numerous European nations whose cuisines came into contact with the Middle East through trade. Therefore, the United Arab Emirates, located in the heart of the Middle East, is an ideal place to sample delicious Arabian meals. Arabic desserts such as Baklava, main meals such as Kibbeh and accompaniments such as Hummus can be thoroughly enjoyed at restaurants in Eastern Mangroves District in Abu Dhabi. While those who prefer to sample street food can do so with ease, travellers who wish to enjoy an authentic Arabic or Emirati meal can opt for a buffet-style spread at a resort such as Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara in the city.
Arabic cuisine is well known for its numerous accompaniments, including a myriad of dips. One can enjoy spicy potatoes known as Batara Harra, stuffed squash which is called Kousa Mahshi and a savoury pastry filled with meat and nuts known as Lakm bil Ajin. Toasted pita bread can be enjoyed with a number of different dips such as Hummus bi Tahina, a dip made from chickpeas and sesame seeds, Muhammara, a hot pepper dip and Baba Ghanoush, an eggplant based dip.
Those with a sweet tooth will, in addition to Baklava, which is a layered pastry drenched in Attar syrup and stuffed with nuts, enjoy other sweet delights such as Kunafi, which is stuffed with white cheese and nuts, Boughasha which is a pastry with a walnut filling and Basbousha i.e. Semolina Cake. Arabic cuisine includes several versions of cookies as well and visitors can sample Barazeh which is a cookie made of sesame seed, while Almond cookies are known as Ghorayebah.
Therefore, the diversity of Arabic cuisine, savoury or sweet, should come as no surprise, and it is perhaps the varied flavour profile of Arabic food that make it beloved across the world.
