Mouth-watering Food Experiences on Bintan Island
Learn a bit about Indonesian cuisine
Sometimes all it takes to explore the essence of a destination is with a spoon full of local cuisine that goes straight into your mouth! Indonesia has a distinct cuisine that is sure to get all those gourmets excited about tasting something new.
Indonesian Cuisine
Asian cuisine is famous for its rich spiciness that comes from the many spices added to cook up a fine meal. However, this is not so with Indonesian food, the dishes here are not that spicy and includes coriander, cardamom, nutmeg, ginger and turmeric in varying quantities.
Dining
If the food seems to be a tad bit too spicy, the locals usually drink water with ice, tea or coconut milk to soothe the insides. Also, the cutlery set out at Bintan restaurants will not usually include a knife. The Indonesians feel that some meals are best enjoyed while eating with one’s bare hands.
Common dishes
The most common dishes on Bintan island is most probably nasi goreng, mi goreng, fried rice, and fried noodles often served with a poultry, meat or fish dish. In some instances, these may be mixed in together with vegetables and server with eggs and shrimp chips.
Desserts
Looking at the sweeter side of things, rujak prepared with fruit and palm sugar sauce, fruit pudding, sweet pastries or natural ice cream. Rice pudding with durian cream tastes amazing too. If you are lodged at hotels like The Residence Bintan by Cenizaro, don’t forget to check these out at the buffet.
