Vanuatu boasts a vibrant and rich cuisine due to its abundant supply of fresh seafood and fertile soil that produces some of the tastiest tropical fruits and vegetables. Below are some of the food items that you should try during your time here.

Flying fox Curry

This is a unique and quite bizarre curry that is made from bat meat. Most of the people who have tried this dish say that it is surprisingly delicious.

Lap Lap

Lap Lap is the national dish of Vanuatu. It is made from a type of yam that is abundantly available in the island. The dish is prepared by grating the yam and pounding it to a paste which is then mixed with freshly squeezed coconut cream. It is layered on top of banana leaves and baked wrapped in the coconut leaves.

Poulet fish

Poulet is a fish variety that is commonly found in the seas around Vanuatu. The fish is generally baked whole filleted with edible flowers and herbs. This cooking process gives the dish an exotic and delicious flavour. It is also served pan fried or streamed and no matter how you cook it tastes absolutely delicious.
