Fiji consists of more than three-hundred islands and is easily one of the top holiday destinations in the world. The nation’s cuisine is bound to be uniquely familiar, and boasts many indulgences.

Kokoda
This is definitely one of the better ways to begin your adventure into the cuisine of Fiji. It’s a fish salad of sorts, where Mahi Mahi fish is left to cook for a long time after being marinated in fresh lemon. Later, coconut cream is added along with diced tomatoes, chilli, salt, pepper and spring onions. It is usually served in a massive clamshell or half a coconut shell. It’s commonly served as an appetiser in any Fiji restaurant.

Nama
This is a form of seaweed that resembles tiny grapes. They are at their best when prepared with freshly grated coconut, salt, lemon juice and chilli. You’re bound to love the flavourful explosions as the beads pop in your mouth.

Lovo
Probably the most essential eating experience if you’re in Fiji, Lovo involves a range of meat and vegetables wrapped in banana leaves and then cooked for a long time under the ground. If you’re staying at a hotel such as InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, be sure to check if they have a Lovo Night.

Taro
This a starchy root vegetable that is a staple in Fijian cuisine, although commonly boiled and made into a curry, taro chips are one of the best snacks Fiji has to offer.
