Ways to marinate chicken
Excite your taste buds with this marination
Chicken is one of the most popular meat in any household. The flavour of your chicken is what makes it stand out no matter how you decide to cook it. Initially it is crucial that you use fresh chicken from any boutique that sells meat products in Sri Lanka. If you’re looking for pre made marinades, most supermarkets such as Keells Super have them.
Few of the most popular ways to marinate chicken are; the ‘classical Marinade’, ‘Mojo Citrus Marinade’, ‘Thai coconut Marinade’, ‘Teriyaki Marinade’ and ‘Provençal Herb Marinade’. The ingredients and the recipes to prepare the above chicken recipes will be explored in this article.
The classical Marinade can be prepared with; 1/4 cups of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, 1 chopped garlic clove, 1 tablespoon of parsley (fresh or dry), 1 tablespoon basil (fresh or dry) and 1/2 a teaspoon of red chili flakes. The Mojo Citrus Marinade requires; 1/4 cups freshly squeezed orange and lime juice, 1 roughly chopped large garlic clove, 1 tablespoon of Cilantro (fresh or dried) and 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin.
Thai coconut Marinade chicken requires the following ingredients; 1 roughly chopped garlic clove, 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons light coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1/2 a teaspoon soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh ginger. You can add a thinly sliced Thai or Fresno chili to make the flavour pop if you like. Ingredients for the Teriyaki Marinade chicken are; 1 tablespoon of honey, 1½ tablespoons soy sauce, 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons pineapple juice and 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh ginger.
Finally, the Provençal Herb Marinade chicken can be prepared with; 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 roughly chopped garlic clove, 1 teaspoon minced fresh oregano (fresh or dried), 1 teaspoon Dijon or stone-ground mustard and 1/2 teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves (fresh or dried).
Once the ingredients are obtained, place the chicken in a zip lock bag and pour the mixture of the ingredients onto it. Seal the bag tightly, slightly pressing it to remove all air trapped inside. Then stack the bags in your freezer. These marinated meats can be kept frozen for over 3 months and is completely healthy and sanitary for consumption.
