With fine white sand and calm waters Jimbaran Bay, one of the finest beaches in Bali is safe for swimming for adults and adults. However the beach’s fame rests with its sunsets and seafood. A traditional fish market situated at the bay’s northern end right on the beach is where the action takes place as far as the seafood is concerned. The catch coming in early every morning consists of all types of fish as well as shellfish. Nearly every restaurant along the beach and surrounding areas sources seafood from this market.
Eating seafood on Jimbaran beach is part of a great experience here. The Bay has about 50 seafood restaurants by the beach arranged in 3 different groups named Muaya in the south, Kedonganan in the middle and Kelan north of the fish market. The tables are set on the sand in the evenings. If guests were to sit on the lowest stools, they could get their feet wet at high tide. A combination of cool breezes, beautiful sunsets, and candle light throwing a mellow light on the diners is a very pleasing way to enjoy the seafood. Occasionally paper lanterns rising into the air provide pin pricks of light against the evening sky, a real treat for diners.
All the beach restaurants serve seafood prepared more or less the same way. Grilled fish, crab, shrimp, squid, lobster, green vegetables boiled with garlic, rice or French fries accompanied by spicy sauces. The seafood is found live in tanks and diners only have to pick what they wish to eat and it is grilled and served literally in the blink of an eye. Bintang beer and soft drinks are the favoured beverages to wash down the meal. Set menus for couples are also offered by the restaurants with different combinations of sea food and vegetables. Since the food is pretty much the same, potential diners need to check out the beach restaurants if they are to get a meal at a good price.
Other dining options include restaurants at the hotels around the bay some of which provide truly exceptional dining experiences with seafood prepared in many interesting and delicious ways. Buying fresh fish from the fish market and having it grilled in a place close by and enjoying it on the beach is also another possibility.
